| FEBC-Manila missionaries greet the arrival of a ship at the Manila docks. Following WW2, most staff traveled across the Pacific by freighter, bringing their possessions in 55 gallon drums (in the lower right hand corner) with removable lids. The trip from the west coast of the U.S. to Manila took approximately three weeks without intervening stops. This photo is possibly related to #362, which shows John Broger (in white suit and hat) on the PFEL's California Bear. Year: 1948 Country: PHL Set: 8 Updated: 2008-08-31 20:42:36

| This photo reveals interesting details relating to the construction of the DZAS tower bases. Sand, cement and water were measured, poured and shoveled manually into the mixers and then down the makeshift chutes into the 5x5x5 foot hand-dug holes (appx.15 cubic yards per hole). The anchor bolts for the tower legs are ready to push down into the concrete and be aligned by the square jig nailed to the cross pieces. And old army mess water tank serves as water source. In the background army tents are still serving as construction shop and bodega. In the foreground right there is a KLIM can used for measuring cement. KLIM was powdered milk, the only milk available in the Philippines at the time...and despised by most missionary kids! Year: 1950 Country: PHL Set: 11 Updated: 2006-02-19 00:23:43

As the CRCM facility could no longer accommodate the proliferation of transmitters and antennas for the growing overseas schedule, the Bocaue property was purchased and development begun in 1957. | This is probably the only existing copy of a calendar/schedule giveaway associated with the China Christian Broadcasting System in China. It is comprised of a backing and 14 tissue-paper leaves upon which are printed the radio schedule and the twelve months of 1948. The second page, partially visible through the title, shows the frequencies of XGOA (660kc and 9730kc) XLAW (1030kc) and XORA (1390kc) and the times of the individual broadcasts. It is presumed that during 1948 the broadcasts were terminated due to the collapse of the KMT. The radio work was a cooperative venture with the China Inland Mission (CIM) and other Christian agencies. The actual calendar size is 50mm x 100mm.
